Marton vs Pirates Anyone watching at Marton Park last Saturday would have been both impressed and shocked as Marton after 20 minutes were leading their much fancied opposition 14-0. Captain George Malasia started the scoring with a block busting try, conversion by Tai Sau-fale. Then minutes later second five John Alio scooped up a loose Pirates pass and ran 55m to score, conversion by Tai. Marton were showing a renewed passion and enthusiasm putting great pressure on the pirates side forcing mistakes and then capitalising on them. But Pirates through some good forward play came back with a penalty and then a converted try to be 14-10 down. Then something less than pretty happened a fight broke out between numerous players from both sides which lead to the 1st half ending early. Control was lost by the referee and never really came back, with both players and referees clashing over several incidents through out the second half, which marred what could have been a good game of rugby and turned it into a farcical 2nd half. Marton ended the game with only 13 players on the field but still managed to score another excellent try to replacement 1st Tom Sutton which Tai converted. A lack of discipline turned what could have been an excellent win and rugby spectacle into a loss which should only be used as a learning curve of how not to behave on a rugby field.
